Airtel Introduces the First Spam Detection Service in India Using Al-powered Networks

By Consultant Review Team Wednesday, 25 September 2024

To address the issue of spam calls and messages for its users, Bharti Airtel introduced India's first network-based, AI-powered spam detection solution on Wednesday.

"A telecom service provider in the nation has developed a first-of-its-kind program that would notify users instantly of any suspected spam calls or SMSs. In a news statement, the business stated that all Airtel customers would receive the free solution automatically, without requiring them to download an app or submit a service request.

According to Gopal Vittal, Managing Director and CEO of Bharti Airtel, "Spam has turned into a threat for consumers." We are proud to announce the introduction of the nation's first AI-powered spam-free network today, which will protect our consumers from the constant barrage of unsolicited and intrusive communications.

How does it operate?

The spam detection system from Bharti Airtel is made to provide dual-layer security. It has two filters: an IT systems layer filter and a network layer filter. Each SMS and call is routed through this two-layered AI barrier. Every day, the solution handles 1.5 billion messages and 2.5 billion calls in 2 milliseconds, according to CEO Vittal.

Furthermore, the solution notifies users of any harmful links they may have received by SMS. Airtel has created a centralized database of prohibited URLs for this purpose, and an AI algorithm instantly scans each SMS to warn customers against inadvertently clicking on dubious links.

"Frequent IMEI changes are one common sign of fraudulent activity, and the solution can identify these kinds of irregularities. The company added that by adding layers of protection, it is making sure that its clients have the best possible defense against the constantly changing spam and fraud threats."
