Anodizing facility fire found to be likely cause of Tata Electronics fire

By Consultants Review Team Wednesday, 09 October 2024

The Tamil Nadu government has established the'most probable cause' of the fire that devoured the Tata Electronics factory in Hosur, according to sources familiar with the situation.

"The fire broke out in the Anodising plant because of a failure of the thermostat control in one bath," according to one of the reported sources.

"The fire spread through the air duct, destroying the Anodising factory totally. These were the results of the government inquiry, which were also shared with Tata Electronics officials.

Another individual verified that this is believed to be the cause of the fire, and that a thorough investigation is ongoing. As of press time on Tuesday, queries submitted to Tata Electronics have not to be answered.

According to the procedure, after the inquiry is done, specialists will submit a report to the Directorate of Industrial Safety and Health (DISH) following a comprehensive examination of the unit. However, this might take some time.

"The rubble and debris must be removed first before the study can begin," one of the persons listed above stated.

"Right now, the structures are unstable, and Tata Electronics is conducting its own assessment for an insurance claim, so the government will have to wait before probing further."

According to one individual familiar with DISH's process, after the report is submitted to the authority for approval, it will either be approved or a re-investigation will be requested. "About 99% of the time, the findings will be accepted unless any malafide intent is found," added the investigator.

"Once approved, the investigation team will suggest remedial measures and DISH too could add some points."

ET reported on Sunday that Apple's supplier responsibility (SR) team has been to the Tata Electronics site in Hosur since September 29 to "counsel and advise" the Indian contract manufacturer, which experienced a catastrophic fire in one of its facilities on September 28.

It was also discovered that the DISH was conducting a government-related investigation to find out what caused the device to catch fire.
