Apple begins preparing employees to build Made-in-India iPhone Pro models

By Consultants Review Team Tuesday, 20 August 2024

According to sources cited by Bloomberg News on August 20, Apple Inc. has begun training hundreds of workers at its Tamil Nadu manufacturing to make the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max as close to the global launch as feasible.

With its partner Foxconn Technology Group, Apple Inc. intends to produce the top-tier Pro and Pro Max variants of the next iPhone 16 series in India for the first time, according to an exclusive report published in July.

'New product introduction' (NPI) for the pro variants of the iPhone 16 will shortly begin at Foxconn's factory in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, and once announced, the device will go into mass production. Foxconn is often given first priority for new production because to its expertise and extensive integration into Apple's supply chain.

According to Bloomberg News, Foxconn will begin assembling the premium gadgets 'within weeks' of their global introduction. According to Bloomberg News, Apple's two India partners—Pegatron's India subsidiary and the Tata Group—may also begin manufacturing the Pro models.

Apple is scheduled to release the iPhone16, which is built in India, on the same day it goes on sale worldwide. Officials from Apple, Foxconn, and Pegatron declined to comment, while Tata did not reply to a request for comment.

Apple has boosted the manufacture of its premium iPhones in India through Foxconn and Tata Electronics. Apple may potentially revive plans to manufacture iPads in India through Foxconn, Moneycontrol said in July.

On July 8, it was reported that Apple is negotiating with contract manufacturer Jabil in Pune to increase the manufacturing of components for AirPod wireless charging cases and that it may do the same with Foxconn. AirPods made in India might go into production as early as next year.
