Apple iPhone 17 Series might Feature Significant Design Changes and New Model

Apple is apparently preparing considerable design modifications for the next-generation iPhone 17 series, which will be released in 2025. According to Forbes, citing The Information, the iPhone 17 lineup could have a new design language, such as a dual-material back panel and a leaner "Air" model to replace the Plus variation.

iPhone 17: anticipated design updates

The iPhone 17 series, which includes the basic iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is believed to include aluminum frames, as opposed to the titanium frames now utilized in Pro variants. Other significant changes may include the following:

Back panel: The Pro models may feature a dual-finish design with aluminum on the top half and glass on the bottom half to allow for wireless charging.

Camera module: A rectangular aluminum camera bump is expected to replace the present iPhone's squarish 3D glass module.

These modifications represent a substantial shift from Apple's current iPhone design approach. The switch to aluminum frames and the addition of a dual-material back panel could signal a design revamp for the iPhone series, aimed at improving looks while keeping functionality.

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be a slimmer option to the Plus model, measuring between 5mm and 6mm in thickness. However, this compact design may necessitate the following tradeoffs in hardware capabilities.

Battery and audio: To obtain a slim frame, use a smaller battery and a single speaker.

Camera: A single rear camera system without a telephoto lens.

5G modem: Apple's in-house 5G modem is projected to produce slower peak speeds and lesser reliability than Qualcomm's existing modems. mmWave 5G technology, which debuted with the iPhone 12, may not be supported.

SIM slot: Physical SIM slots can be completely deleted, further adding to the slim design.

If the compromises in the iPhone 17 Air model are real, it suggests that Apple may prioritize design over feature density for this particular edition.
