By Consultants Review Team Tuesday, 10 September 2024

With an investment of Rs 2,000 crore, Jabil Inc., an American multinational contract manufacturer for Apple, would establish an electronics manufacturing facility in Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, generating employment for 5,000 people.

After Foxconn, Pegatron, and Tata Electronics, the state is expected to acquire its fourth Apple supplier with this acquisition. Jabil is a significant supplier to HP and Cisco as well. Jabil started producing the plastic bodies of AirPods for Apple earlier this year in India.

These days, China and Vietnam are India's top export markets for Jabil. About 2,500 people work at its 858,000 square foot plant in Pune. As part of Chief Minister M K Stalin's visit to the US, the transaction was finalized on Tuesday.

"Jabil, a global EMS leader, has made a significant investment of Rs 2,000 crore in Tiruchirapalli. This will create 5,000 jobs and establish a new cluster for electronics manufacturing," Stalin wrote on the X platform.

In addition, Rockwell Automation is expanding its manufacturing with a Rs 666 crore investment in Kanchipuram, which would create 365 jobs. A memorandum of understanding was also inked with Autodesk to train youngsters and support MSMEs and startups, hence improving our entire industrial ecosystem.

Apple exported phones worth Rs 34,089 crore during the first four months of the current fiscal year. While Apple is attempting to relocate a substantial piece of its supply chain to India with the 'Make in India for the World' project, it is also looking to boost its domestic market. In 2023-24, the company's domestic market was worth Rs 67,000 crore.
