Dubai South, the largest urban master development focused on aviation, logistics, and real estate, has announced the opening of a cutting-edge Parts Distribution Center (PDC) for Ford in collaboration with DB Schenker, a global leader in logistics and supply chain management.
The 42,000-square-meter complex, designed to set new benchmarks in operational efficiency and technical innovation, is a momentous step in altering the region's logistics sector, according to a Dubai South statement.
The new PDC uses innovative Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and a complex racking system designed to maximize storage capacity and picking efficiency.
These include Very Narrow Aisle (VNA) systems, Multi-Tier Mezzanines (MTM), Deep Selective Racking (DSR), and Cantilever Racking (CR), all of which improve order processing and assure smooth operations.
In addition, the facility has 20 container docks (10 for inbound and 10 for outbound operations), allowing for simultaneous activities to speed up delivery times.
Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, Kay Hart, President of Ford Motor Company's International Markets Group, Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East, Ako Djaf, Vice President of Contract Logistics and SCM for DB Schenker in the Middle East and Africa, and other senior officials attended the inauguration ceremony.
Mohsen Ahmad, CEO of the Logistics District in Dubai South, stated, "We are delighted to welcome Ford to Dubai South with the opening of its new facility. With DB Schenker's expertise and skills, we are convinced that this relationship will support Ford's expansion efforts while providing quality services to its clients throughout the area."
"At Dubai South, our objective is to support the government's economic diversification plans by providing complete services and solutions to both local and international businesses, all supported by cutting-edge infrastructure. We remain committed to establishing Dubai as one of the world's premier logistics centers," he said.
Ako Djaf, DB Schenker's VP of Contract Logistics and SCM in the Middle East and Africa, stated, "We take great delight in supporting Ford's ambitious ambition for operational excellence in the Middle East. The new Parts Distribution Center exemplifies the power of teamwork and innovation, as it streamlines supply chain procedures, improves customer satisfaction, and contributes to sustainability goals."
"By leveraging our global expertise and advanced logistics solutions, we are excited to play a pivotal role in Ford's journey to deliver unparalleled service to its customers across the region," he said.
The PDC's operations are underpinned by DB Schenker's expertise in integrating SAP S/4HANA warehouse management software, which enables paperless picking with barcode scanning for unrivaled accuracy and speed.
Located ideally in Dubai South, the PDC combines Ford's storage and distribution into a single, technologically advanced hub that serves key markets in the GCC and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The facility boosts capacity by 20% above its predecessor, considerably enhancing inventory management and operating efficiency.
A dedicated Vehicle Off Road (VOR) processing team ensures that vital parts are prioritized, reducing delays and improving customer satisfaction.
"The new PDC will enable us to create a more streamlined and efficient process that enhances parts availability, optimizes inventory management, and elevates customer service," said Ravi Ravichandran, President of Ford Middle East.
"By unlocking these operational efficiencies, we are delivering on our commitment to improve service and delivery times in the region, and we are thrilled to see this latest Ford project in Dubai come to fruition," he added.
DB Schenker's dedication to sustainability is reflected in the facility's architecture, which features environmentally friendly methods.
A 400kW solar panel system, scheduled to be implemented in late 2025, will reduce energy usage by 35% and reduce the carbon footprint by 290 tons per year. Responsible waste management, which includes recycling and eco-friendly disposal, strengthens the facility's environmentally sustainable operations.
