Four Hubs Set up by Amazon India to Provide Emergency Supplies in Less than 72 Hours

By Consultants Review Team Friday, 09 August 2024

As part of its disaster management plan, e-commerce behemoth Amazon India announced on Friday that it has established four hubs, including a temporary hub in West Bengal, to provide essential relief supplies in less than 72 hours.

These disaster relief mitigating facilities are situated in Purba Bardhaman in West Bengal, Hyderabad in Telangana, Thane in Maharashtra, and Faridabad in Haryana. According to Amazon India, these locations will allow the company to quickly mobilize resources and support communities affected by a variety of natural disasters, including floods, cyclones, and cold waves.

It stated that a team of professionals from Amazon transportation services carefully considered network optimization while developing the locations of these hubs, which are in the West, North, South, and East of India. The corporation stated that the decision was made in reaction to the floods that this year's significant rains caused in several sections of the nation.

Anita Kumar, Head of Amazon Community Impact, India and APAC, stated, "Our extensive logistic network, warehousing expertise, and our collaborative approach to working closely with non-profit partners, dedicated relief workers, and selfless volunteers on the ground are what drive our disaster relief efforts."

Amazon has shipped 10,890 shelter kits to the impacted areas as part of the ongoing relief operations, helping over 10,000 households in 34 districts. The company reports that as of August 1st, Amazon had donated 18,200 relief kits that included food, non-food items, and shelter supplies. Additionally, the company reports that it had used 45 percent of the pre-stocked supplies at the hubs for the year in response to the severe monsoon flooding that affected the Southwest and Northeast regions as well as the most recent landslides that occurred in Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

The business said that by taking a proactive stance, it has been able to reply to requests from grassroots partners—such as state disaster management agencies, non-profit organizations, and interagency groups—within 72 hours
