By Consultants Review Team Thursday, 05 September 2024

India and Singapore inked crucial Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Wednesday in the domains of digital technology, semiconductors, health cooperation, and skill development, cementing their partnership.

The agreements were made during bilateral discussions between PM Modi, who is visiting Singapore, and his colleague Lawrence Wong.

What are the important MoUs between India and Singapore?

The first MoU was signed between India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information to collaborate on digital technologies. This will make it easier for the two nations to collaborate closely on digital technologies like DPI, cyber-security, and 5G, as well as new technologies like super-computing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. It would also facilitate collaboration for upskilling and reskilling professionals in the digital sphere.

India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore's Ministry of Trade and Industry inked a memorandum of understanding for a collaboration in the semiconductor ecosystem.

According to this agreement, India and Singapore will collaborate to build a semiconductor cluster and cultivate talent in semiconductor design and manufacture. It will also ease Singapore's investment in India.

Notably, Singapore is an important element of the global semiconductor supply chain, producing 10% of all chips and 20% of semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Another Memorandum of Understanding was signed by India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Singapore's Ministry of Health to collaborate in the field of health and medicine. This agreement will enhance combined efforts in research and innovation in areas of mutual interest, as well as tighter collaboration in human resource development in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries. The deal will also contribute to New Delhi's attempts to promote Indian healthcare experts in Singapore.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship of India and the Ministry of Education of Singapore inked the final agreement on educational collaboration and skills development. This agreement intends to strengthen cooperation in technical and vocational education and training, complementing the continuing active partnership in skill development.
