The IT behemoth Infosys opened a development center in New Town, close by, that was constructed at a cost of Rs 426 crore.

"This is a New Year gift to West Bengal," Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared during the development center's opening.

"This Infosys facility will facilitate the entry of additional IT firms into West Bengal. One of the nation's top IT states is West Bengal. The state is home to some 2,200 IT firms, including major players like TCS, Wipro, IBM, and Accenture," she noted.

It's a momentous day for the state, the chief minister added.

According to Banerjee, "We wanted Infosys in the state and the company fulfilled our dreams."

The chief minister said that a new Silicon Valley will be built on 200 acres in New Town, with the potential to produce 75,000 employment and an investment of Rs 27,000 crore.

"Twenty-eight companies have already started work with 11 data centres coming up," she stated.

The Infosys complex, which will span 50 acres, has the ability to employ 4,000 IT workers.

Banerjee stated that a cable landing station is being built in the state to help improve connection for IT companies.
