Jio Platforms Limited, led by Mukesh Ambani, announced on Wednesday that it has signed a deal with SpaceX to bring Starlink's internet services to India, a day after rival Bharti Airtel did the same.

"This agreement, which is subject to SpaceX receiving its own authorisations to sell Starlink in India, enables Jio and SpaceX to explore how Starlink can extend Jio's offerings and how Jio can complement SpaceX's direct offerings to consumers and businesses," a statement said.

Through its physical locations and online platforms, Jio Platforms Limited plans to offer Starlink solutions.

With Jio's widespread presence as the largest mobile operator globally in terms of data traffic and Starlink's leadership in low Earth orbit satellite technology, dependable broadband connectivity will be made available throughout India, including its most rural and remote regions.

"Jio will not only provide Starlink equipment in its retail locations, but will also establish a mechanism to assist customers with installation and activation. The agreement with SpaceX is part of Jio's commitment to making reliable internet available to all enterprises, small and medium-sized businesses, and communities in India," the company stated.

In order to integrate their infrastructure and fortify India's digital ecosystem, Jio and SpaceX are also investigating other joint venture prospects.

Reliance Jio group CEO Mathew Oommen stated, "Our partnership with SpaceX to introduce Starlink to India demonstrates our dedication and represents a revolutionary step towards seamless broadband connectivity for everyone." "We are expanding our reach and enhancing the reliability and accessibility of high-speed broadband in this AI-driven era by integrating Starlink into Jio's broadband ecosystem, enabling communities and businesses across the country."

SpaceX President and COO Gwynne Shotwell said, "We commend Jio's dedication to enhancing connectivity in India. We are thrilled to work with Jio and obtain permission from the Indian government to provide more individuals, organizations, and companies with Starlink's high-speed internet services."
