Manish Tiwary, the head of
Amazon India, has
left the firm after more than eight years with the Seattle-based e-commerce giant.
Tiwary, who had spent almost two decades in the consumer market before joining Amazon, started as vice president (category) in 2016 and rose to the post of country manager by 2020. Amazon India said in a statement that Tiwary is departing to explore a career opportunity outside the company. To ensure a smooth transition, Tiwary will remain with Amazon until October.
Tiwary, a HUL veteran, formerly held multiple top roles at the FMCG giant, including managing director at Unilever Gulf and vice-president (consumer development) for the company's North Africa and Middle East regions.
"India is a key focus for Amazon. We are thrilled with the momentum and commercial achievements we have already achieved, and we are even more enthused about the huge potential ahead to innovate on behalf of our consumers and digitally improve lives and livelihoods. "Amit Agarwal, SVP India and Emerging Markets, will continue to work with the Amazon.in team, guiding its strong bench of leaders to deliver on this opportunity," Amazon India said in a statement.
Tiwary's exit from Amazon comes at a time when the Indian e-commerce business remains competitive, with deep-pocketed companies such as Walmart's Flipkart and SoftBank-backed Meesho spending heavily on the space. Amazon and Walmart spend billions of dollars
in India.
