MediaTek's forthcoming Dimensity 8400 processor may surpass the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

By Consultants Review Team Tuesday, 23 July 2024

MediaTek plans to unveil its new Dimensity 8400 chipset later this year, establishing it as a formidable rival in the non-flagship CPU market for smartphones. According to recent leaks, the chipset has reached considerable performance benchmarks, outperforming some of Qualcomm's most recent products.

Performance Benchmarks

According to a Weibo post by tipster Digital Chat Station, the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 achieved AnTuTu benchmark scores ranging from 1.7 million to 1.8 million. This is a significant boost over Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, which has varying performance rankings but falls roughly in the same range. For example, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 8-powered Samsung Galaxy S24 scored 1.74 million on AnTuTu, yet other devices, such as the iQOO 12, scored closer to 2 million.

Despite these competitive results, the Dimensity 8400 is predicted to cost less to build than its Qualcomm equivalent. This low cost may make it a popular choice among smartphone manufacturers, perhaps leading to increased market adoption.

Market Implications and Potential Pricing

The informant also stated that smartphones equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 8400 might start at CNY 1,500 (about Rs. 17,250). This cheap cost might encourage manufacturers to include the chipset in a wider range of gadgets, giving users superior performance at a lesser cost.

While the early benchmark results are impressive, other performance measures such as CPU optimization, power efficiency, and thermal management must also be considered. These parameters will have a significant impact on the Dimensity 8400's overall efficacy in real-world applications. The chipset's full performance and dependability will only be revealed until it is officially introduced and tested on multiple devices.

The new MediaTek Dimensity 8400 chipset has the potential to rival some of Qualcomm's flagship CPUs, with good benchmark scores and low production costs. However, its final success will be determined by its performance on a variety of measures, including efficiency and heat control. As the launch date approaches, the industry will be looking closely to see how this new chipset performs in real-world circumstances.
