Meta, the parent company of Facebook executed around twenty employee terminations after uncovering confidential data leaks. Meta conducted an internal probe after which the company terminated several workers who shared privileged information about product announcements and internal staff meetings without approval. Staff members continually receive reminders that internal information sharing of any kind constitutes a rules violation at Facebook despite their intentions during disclosures. CEO Mark Zuckerberg and CTO Andrew Bosworth at Meta continue to show their frustration about leaks to the public. Bosworth specifically mentioned that their efforts to detect offenders become more effective.
The company spokesman Dave Arnold states that Meta issues continuous reminders to its workers about their policy against internal information disclosure. Arnold stated to The Verge that "We recently conducted an investigation that resulted in roughly 20 employees being terminated for sharing confidential information outside the company, and we expect there will be more," Several leaks have occurred at the company during past months because CEO Mark Zuckerberg's internal discussions leaked to the press. Widespread media reports of Zuckerberg's employee meeting led to severe security protocols after the session.
The Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth spoke about the leaks to employees in an internal conference during this month while noting active Meta efforts to discover the leakers. “We are making progress on catching people,” he reportedly said.
The recent crackdown mirrors an ongoing difficult period for Meta employees who experience large-scale layoffs together with modifications in content moderation policies and elimination of DEI programs. Zuckerberg spoke at the company meeting about how he was upset about leaks which happened frequently, stating, “We try to be really open, and then everything I say leaks. It sucks.”
While the company has not disclosed what specific information was leaked or to whom, the move signals its commitment to protecting internal discussions.
