Meta Seeks Engineering Director in India to Oversee Operations in Bengaluru

Meta is looking for an engineering director in Bengaluru to oversee the company's engineering operations in India, according to job postings on its website. The move is similar to that of other tech titans such as Microsoft, Amazon, and Google, all of which have a significant engineering presence in India's Silicon Valley.

According to the job description, the engineering director will influence technical decision-making, drive prioritization and execution, and manage outstanding engineers and engineering managers.

Bengaluru has the most job openings in India, with 41 available, primarily for application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) engineers.

Aside from that, Meta is looking to hire hardware engineers to support its expanding AI infrastructure.

It was not immediately clear how many employees Meta, which owns Facebook and WhatsApp, had in Bengaluru. According to a source familiar with the situation, the company already has a presence in the city through multiple teams. Business Standard could not independently verify the figures.

"Our location strategies are regularly updated to support our long-term investments. As part of this, we are hiring for a few engineering positions in Bengaluru," a company spokesperson stated.

Meta, which has offices in Gurugram, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Hyderabad, considers India to be one of its most important markets, after the United States, in terms of user numbers. India is also becoming the largest market for Meta AI usage, according to CEO Mark Zuckerberg during an earnings call last year.

With more than 700 million users globally, the artificial intelligence (AI) tool is a part of the social media behemoth's product line, which also includes Instagram and WhatsApp.

Meta also announced plans to build a 50,000-kilometer subsea cable network connecting the United States, India, Brazil, South Africa, and other key regions in order to create oceanic corridors that will ensure the high-speed connectivity required to drive global AI innovation.
