Motherson, a major auto component manufacturer, announced on Friday that it has formed a joint venture with Japan's Sanko, a material handling company, to provide sustainable packaging solutions in India and Europe.

Motherson claims that the joint venture (JV) will reduce overall logistics costs while improving material handling efficiency.

Vivek Chaand Sehgal, the chairman of Motherson, characterized the collaboration with Sanko as a strategic, mutually beneficial diversification for the organization.

"We believe that reimagining packaging as an engineered solution versus a simple commodity can bring immense logistics, cost, and value efficiencies to supply chains," he stated.

More importantly, Sehgal stated, "We see this collaboration as another way to support our customers in achieving their sustainability goals."

Toshihiko Goto, president of Sanko, said, "We believe we can contribute more to Motherson's and our valuable customers by combining Motherson's strong global presence and our long experience and rich expertise in the sustainable packaging solution business."

By fusing Motherson's wide-ranging presence in India and Europe with Sanko's engineering know-how and decades of innovation, the joint venture seeks to offer creative, sustainable solutions for the automotive and non-automotive sectors, the statement said.
