PepsiCo announced intentions to close four bottling plants in the United States and lay off almost 400 employees as part of its attempts to streamline operations.

The company claimed the closures will affect 136 employees in Cincinnati, 131 in Chicago, 127 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and less than 50 in Atlanta.

The Chicago factory is the only one that will completely close. PepsiCo acknowledged the shutdown earlier this week. The company stated that sales, shipping, and warehouse operations will continue at the remaining three locations.

PepsiCo cut its annual sales projection earlier this month as consumers in the United States, China, and other countries resisted buying its beverages and snacks following years of price increases

The second and third quarters of this year saw a 3% decline in PepsiCo's beverage sales in North America.

PepsiCo's net profits for the July–September period dropped 5% to $2.9 billion. The business has stated time and time again that it is intent on increasing production and efficiency.

The Purchase, New York-based PepsiCo claimed that although the majority of the impacted workers won't have to work during that time, they will still be paid and receive benefits for 60 days.
