Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate a cutting-edge auditorium boasting a seating capacity of 1,500, along with a state-of-the-art Central Research Laboratory at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Durgapur, tomorrow.
Professor Arvind Choubey, director of NIT Durgapur, expressed enthusiasm for the inauguration, highlighting its significance in advancing the institute's academic offerings and capacity. He emphasized that these projects signify the government's steadfast commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the holistic development of students in the state, while also positioning the institute to achieve new milestones in engineering education.
NIT Durgapur, one of the nation's oldest technical institutes, holds the status of being an institution of national importance and has been ranked 43rd in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).
The Central Research Laboratory is a towering G+10 structure covering an area of 11,110 sqm, purpose-built for high-level interdisciplinary research and innovation. Equipped with sophisticated instruments such as the high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM), ion chromatography (IC), and Fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer (FT-NMR) with 400 MHz resolution, the laboratory is poised to address contemporary societal challenges and conduct research in vital areas like water management, environmental conservation, green energy, and assistive technology.
Additionally, the laboratory will house advanced research facilities including the Centre for Research on Environment and Water (CREW), Centre for Biomedical Engineering & Assistive Technology (BEAT), Centre for Advanced Research on Energy (CARE), and Centre of Excellence on IoT and Intelligent Systems (IoTIS).
The auditorium, a pride of NIT Durgapur and the state of West Bengal, is designed to offer a superior experience to its occupants. With a seating capacity of 1,500, a 20,000-lumen projection system, and state-of-the-art acoustics and audiovisual facilities, it promises an immersive environment for various events. The expansive stage spanning 288 sq meters and a sizable screen measuring 17.5 x 6 sq meters further enhance its capabilities, all while ensuring comfort with central air-conditioning.
NIT Durgapur's sprawling 187-acre campus accommodates around 5,000 students from India and abroad, offering a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in engineering, science, technology, and humanities. The institute remains committed to fostering excellence in education and research, supported by world-class infrastructure and facilities.
