Ratan Tata, Legendary Industrialist and Philanthropist, Died at 86

Ratan Tata, Tata Sons' chairman emeritus and an iconic industrialist who helped construct one of India's largest and most important companies, died on Thursday at a hospital in Mumbai. He was 86. He was hospitalized to the Breach Candy Hospital in south Mumbai a few days ago for age-related problems, as reported by PTI. Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran bid farewell to Ratan Tata in a public release, saying his contributions shaped the fabric of India. "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr. Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation," Chandrasekaran told.

He stated that the Tata Group increased its global footprint during Ratan Tata's leadership. "For the Tata Group, Mr. Tata was more than just a chairman. For me, he was a mentor, guide, and friend. He led by example. Under his leadership, the Tata Group extended its global footprint while maintaining committed to its moral compass.

"Mr. Tata's commitment to philanthropy and social development has had an impact on millions of people. From education to healthcare, his initiatives have left a lasting impact that will benefit future generations. Mr. Tata's true humility in every individual interaction reinforced all of this work," according to the Tata chairman. He stated that Ratan Tata's legacy will continue to inspire the business as it works to safeguard the ideas he so passionately championed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi mourned Ratan Tata's death, describing him as a "visionary business leader, a compassionate soul, and an extraordinary human being. One of the most distinguishing characteristics of Shri Ratan Tata Ji was his desire to dream big and give back.

The Prime Minister stated that he was at the vanguard of championing causes such as education, healthcare, sanitation, and animal welfare, to name a few. He also stated that he found his viewpoints highly enriching during their several conversations. "My mind is full of several interactions with Shri Ratan Tata Ji. When I was Chief Minister of Gujarat, I met with him frequently. We would discuss many subjects. His points of view were really interesting to me. These exchanges continued when I arrived in Delhi. His death has caused me much sorrow. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends, and admirers. "Om Shanti," he said to X.

Ratan Tata's death, according to Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, is a significant loss not only for the Tata Group but for all Indians. In an emotional speech, Mukesh Ambani said he had lost a great friend in Ratan Tata. "Each of my numerous interactions with him left me inspired and energised and enhanced my respect for the nobility of his character and the fine human values he embodied," he said.

"With the death of Mr Ratan Tata, India has lost one of its most illustrious and kind sons. Mr. Tata introduced India to the world and brought the finest of the world to Bharat. He institutionalized the House of Tata and made it a multinational enterprise, enlarging the Tata group over 70 times since he took over as Chairman in 1991," said the RIL chairman.

The Congress expressed condolences on Ratan Tata's death, with Lok Sabha Leader Rahul Gandhi describing him as a visionary "who has left a lasting mark on both business and philanthropy". Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also expressed regret over Tata's death, stating that "we have lost an invaluable son of India" with his passing. Industrialist Anand Mahindra stated that Ratan Tata will not be forgotten because "legends never die."
