By Consultants Review Team Friday, 30 August 2024

Reliance Industries Ltd, India's most valuable firm, intends to build its first solar gigafactory this year as part of a shift toward green energy, said chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday.

The solar mega factory will manufacture PV modules, cells, wafers and ingots, polysilicon, and glass in a single place. The modules convert sunlight to power.

During the annual shareholders meeting, he stated that the first train of 20GW solar PV (photovoltaic) manufacture "will commence production" by the end of this year.

It also plans to industrialize sodium-ion cell manufacturing at the MW level by 2025, as well as pilot the first 50 MWh lithium battery cells in 2026.

In 2021, Reliance declared that it will invest $10 billion over three years to build a new fuels company in 2030, based on 100 GW of renewable electricity capacity.

In Jamnagar, Gujarat, four mega factories are to be established to produce hydrogen, fuel cells, renewable energy equipment, and battery storage

Moreover, the corporation plans to achieve Net Carbon Zero status by 2035, which coincides with this shift. Amabani stated that the business will be developing capacities for next electrolyser-based technologies to address issues with capital cost reduction and energy efficiency.
