Sashidhar Jagdishan's appointment to the position of MD and CEO of HDFC Bank was authorized by the Reserve Bank of India. Jagdishan, a chartered accountant by trade with over 31 years of cumulative experience and a master's degree in the economics of money, banking, and finance from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom.
He joined the Bank in 1996 as a Manager in the Finance function. He became Business Head of Finance in 1999 and was appointed as Chief Financial Officer in 2008.He played a critical role in supporting the growth trajectory of the Bank, and led the finance function with a pivotal role in aligning the organization in achieving the strategic objectives over the years, said the Bank in a release.
Prior to his appointment as Managing Director and chief Executive Officer of the Bank, he was the Group Head of the Bank in addition to overseeing the functions of Finance, Human Resources, Legal and secretarial, Administration, Infrastructure, Corporate Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility. Recently, the merger of HDFC Corp with the country's largest private lender HDFC Bank took place in July. In the biggest merger in India's corporate history, announced last April, HDFC Bank agreed to take over HDFC in a deal valued at about $40 billion, creating a financial services titan.
