Survey: GenZ Concerned about Losing Jobs but Unwilling to Sacrifice Work-life Balance, Career Development

According to a survey, GenZ is concerned about losing their jobs but is unwilling to sacrifice work-life balance and professional development. The changes in the work market are not simple to navigate. Some concerns are more pressing for young professionals and Generation Zs entering the job now than in the past.

Unstop's current workplace study identifies the following critical factors: employment expectations, workplace flexibility, remuneration, recognition, well-being, and mental health. These are crucial expectations for GenZs, according to the poll, which included feedback from 5,350 GenZs and 500 HR experts.

Anxiety about losing their job

According to the research, job loss is a major issue among GenZ professionals, with 51% of those polled saying they are afraid of losing their jobs. This also applies to career prospects, with 40% concerned about obtaining employment in their desired professions once they are ready to enter the labor force.

This creates a distinct paradox since, despite these anxieties, GenZ workers questioned had extremely clear and unambiguous expectations for their jobs. Approximately 77% place a higher value on the firm's brand than on the compensation paid; 43% cite hands-on experience and growth prospects as significant factors when deciding whether to join a company.

The emphasis on self-development is clear: 72% believe work happiness is more important to themselves than earnings.

Ankit Aggarwal, Founder and CEO of Unstop, expands on the report's observations. "For the youngest generation in the workforce, employment is more than just a location where you go every day to get your account credited. It needs to easily integrate into various important parts of your life. The GenZ workforce is driving a change and advocating for a work environment that is purposeful rather than repetitive. They remind us that work should be an extension of life, not the other way around. Unstop's analysis is detailed and provides insight into GenZ's employment preferences. It is a call to action for both companies and recruiters. Employers who adapt to these rapidly shifting expectations will be chosen by the next generation of employees."

What does it signify for corporations

Companies today employ many generations. As the number of Generation Z workers grows, businesses must modify their policies to meet their expectations and solve any gaps. For example, the research states that while 78% of GenZ workers polled change positions for greater career advancement, 71% of HR professionals believe it is due to higher salary. In fact, just around a quarter of GenZ professionals view money as the primary reason for career changes.

According to the report, at least 44% of recruiters believe that GenZ values business culture more than career growth. However, according to the poll results, GenZ members value a good professional path with opportunities for advancement and a supportive atmosphere. They are searching for a balance between the two, and businesses should consider this rather than making it unidirectional.

At least 44% of recruiters thought that Gen Z valued the organization.
