Tata Electronics Received a Show-cause Notice Due to the Fire Incident

By Consultants Review Team Thursday, 17 October 2024

According to persons with knowledge of the situation, the Tamil Nadu government has sent Tata Electronics, a division of the Directorate of Industrial Health and Safety (DISH), a show-cause notice asking for an explanation for the large fire that destroyed one of its facilities last month.

One of them stated that the company "will have to respond to the notice within a week, unless they seek an extension." "The show cause notice was sent earlier this week and was addressed to the 'occupier' and the factory manager - as is customary in such cases," the individual said.

"In such cases, it is a procedural measure that is done to give the company a chance to explain what went wrong," the individual stated.

According to the Factories Act, an occupier is the person with final say over a factory's operations and is in charge of making sure that its employees are safe, healthy, and happy. According to the Act, any director of a firm may be considered the occupant.

According to a second source mentioned above, "the show-cause notice also mentions that the fire broke out because of the thermostat control failure at the anodizing plant and asks Tata Electronics to share their findings." In certain instances, businesses concur with the government's logic. In others, they offer an alternative explanation derived from their own research. The individual added.

As of Wednesday, queries submitted to Tata Electronics had not received a response.

"The thermostat control in one bath failed, causing the fire to start in the anodizing plant." The anodizing plant was totally damaged as the fire spread via the air duct. At the time, one source was cited as saying, "These were the results of the government investigation that have also been shared with Tata Electronics executives."

Apple's supplier responsibility (SR) team has been to the Tata Electronics plant in Hosur since September 29 in order to "counsel and advise" its only Indian contract manufacturer, which experienced a significant fire in one of its units on September 28.
