Tata Power Grants Local Suppliers with Contracts Worth 11,000 Crores

According to an official, local suppliers and contractors have been given contracts worth Rs 11,481 crore by Tata Power-led Odisha Discoms. Over the course of the last three years since taking over the state's electricity distribution operations, the joint ventures between Tata electricity and the Odisha government have placed orders with local MSMEs worth Rs 8,690 crore and with non-MSMEs for Rs 2,791 crore by the Discoms.

Local vendors and contractors have been granted these contracts, which are divided into two main categories such as materials and services.

Odisha discoms: According to the official, TP Central, TP Southern, TP Northern, and TP Western Odisha Distribution Limited have signed contracts with 6,645 regional suppliers and merchants.

According to a statement from the firm, these cooperative relationships are the cornerstone of daily operations and services, with a focus on encouraging local merchants to hire people from the surrounding areas.

In the service sector, which includes billing, network maintenance, and meter reading, the discoms have given contracts for a combined Rs 7,560 crore to 4,347 suppliers.

Similar to this, the discoms have awarded 2,298 contracts worth Rs 3,921 crore for their operations in the materials supply category, which includes distribution transformers, cables, poles, and other items.

Materials domain contracts include basic parts such as distribution transformers, cables, poles, laptops, desktop computers, and LT and HT hardware.

Contracts in the service sector encompass a broad variety of tasks, such as the installation of meters, invoicing, collection, call center operations, meter reading, and administrative responsibilities including catering and housekeeping.

This program is essential to Odisha's economic development and not only fits with the Made in Odisha mission. It has greatly boosted local communities' economic prosperity and changed the commercial scene, according to the corporation.
