According to reports, Uber is bringing back Uber Black in India in order to promote premium experiences. The ride-hailing platform will launch the service in the coming weeks, beginning with a few neighborhoods in Mumbai. Uber's operations in India began in 2013 with Uber Black, which offered C-suite automobiles such as Mercedes, BMW and Audi. This was eventually replaced by luxury vehicles such as the Toyota Innova, Honda City, and Toyota Corolla, however the service was discontinued in 2014.
How will Uber Black be reintroduced into India?
Uber Black's new iteration in India will be a "far more sustainable model" in which passengers will receive white glove cab service in larger vehicles than currently available commercial sedans. The service will be provided by Toyota, MG, and other brands' sport-utility vehicles (SUVs) and multi-utility vehicles (MUVs). Uber Black will be priced 30-40% higher than the platform's current top product, Uber Premier. Uber expects it to have "huge traction with corporate travel use cases," according to the story, which cited a source who added, "The service is being launched through Uber's fleet partners."
Why has Uber reintroduced Uber Black in India?
Uber intends to serve all types of clients, and "to that end, the platform is looking at introducing products for both ends of the spectrum," a source told the site. In India, Uber's premium ride-hailing products are outpacing its entry-level on-demand taxi option, Uber Go." And the company is looking to double down on higher-end services," the source said.
What did Uber say about the introduction of Uber Black?
Uber confirmed the development, with a spokesperson saying, "There is a critical mass of travelers who are willing to pay a premium for on-demand services that provide them with a high-end experience, and as Uber caters to a wide range of riders with varying mobility needs, we are responding to this rising demand."
