Vaishnaw: IT Ministry in Contact with Microsoft

By Consultants Review Team Saturday, 20 July 2024

The IT ministry is in regular touch with the US tech giant regarding the impact on computer systems, according to advisories released by the government and national cyber security organization CERT-In on Friday in relation to the Microsoft outage that affected corporations, banks, and airports.

During the day, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw provided two updates and discussed the government's discussions with Microsoft. "MEITY has spoken with Microsoft and its partners about the worldwide outage. Updates have been deployed to address the issue when the cause of the outage was found. Technical advice is being released by CERT. When there was uncertainty about the extent of the outage," the Minister clarified through a statement on X that the NIC network was unaffected.

In the update, CERT-In assessed the severity as "critical" and released a supplementary alert. It provided information and recommendations on what businesses should do in the event that the technical issues persisted. The IT teams were also requested to verify the most recent changes from the Crowd Strike portal.

According to CERT-In, a new upgrade to the software is causing crashes and outages on Windows servers connected to the Crowd Strike agent "Falcon Sensor." It stated that Falcon Sensor-related "Blue Screen of Death (BSOD)" is occurring on worried Windows hosts.

The statement offered solutions to address the problem and stated, "The issues occurred in the latest update of CrowdStrike and the changes have been reverted by the CrowdStrike Team."
