YouTube is Testing the "Sleep Timer" Function: How can it Help Users?

By Consultants Review Team Saturday, 10 August 2024

YouTube has introduced a new experimental function for Premium users. The Google-owned firm has introduced a new sleep timer function that automatically pauses videos after a predetermined duration. The sleep timer is a useful feature that improves the user experience and meets a frequent requirement.

"Sleep Timer lets you set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time," according to the brief description.

Some people listen to podcasts or calm, soothing music before going to bed. However, there are occasions when they fall asleep with the music still playing over the speaker, thereby depleting the phone's or PC's battery. The function allows users to set a timer after which the video is paused, which helps them preserve battery life on their smartphone.

Users must have a YouTube subscription to access this and other experimental features. For a short time, qualifying Premium users may test out new features that the firm is developing, including AI experiments.

The functionality is presently being tested and is anticipated to become available to a larger audience in the near future. However, it should be noted that not all experimental features are released to the public.

How to access "Sleep Timer" on YouTube

YouTube Premium users may enable the timer option by navigating to "Settings > Try experimental new features".

After joining up, visit YouTube on your mobile device or laptop and browse to the settings menu while watching a video to test SleepTimer.

The Sleep Timer option will then appear in the video player's Settings menu, allowing users to select a duration of 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 60 minutes, or until the film ends.

When YouTube pauses playback, users will get a pop-up prompting them to extend the timeout. If you are awake, you can extend it; otherwise, the video will be paused and the gadget will go to sleep.
